Leisure in the Black Forest – our tips for families

The very first activities to mention of course are the many walking and hiking opportunities from right outside the hotel to the surrounding area – Hinterzarten is part of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park Region. We’ll be happy to give you advice at the hotel Reception: Some of our employees are actually certificated Nature Park guides! One of the special features is our gorges – that much we can already reveal. Nearby are the Ravenna and Wutach Gorges – two spectacular wonders of nature. The Hinterzarten nature adventure trail is just a short distance away on foot – the motto of the trail: the joy of nature, an all-round sensory experience.

Excursions with children in the Black Forest

In addition, both our guests and we ourselves like visiting the following destinations with our children, each one no more than half an hour away from the hotel (the travel time details are approximate):

Black Forest Spa and water paradise

Our wellness area is superb but if children want real action then we recommend this leisure pool. The 23 slides in the “Galaxy” area alone mean the kids will have a great time.

Action rope climbing course

Ten different routes lead through the forest. There are two options even for children more than 110 cm tall.

Explor Games® in the Forest

Action Forest, a regional provider of leisure activities, has cleverly carried the idea of the good old scavenger hunt over to the modern age. With the help of a tablet, the hunt takes you on a two kilometre trail through the forest, with various tasks to be completed along the way. The tour is based on a virtual adventure story.

Suitable for:
Old and young (recommended for ages between 4–12 years), game time approx. 2 hours, 2–5 participants

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Märklin World Lake Titisee

Märklin is a name known by every model railway enthusiast! In the village of Titisee, by the lake of the same name, visitors can marvel at a range of great exhibits and exquisite, life-like, little worlds in a museum covering an area of 450 m2.

All year-round except for the annual holidays (normally from mid November to about 20th December; exact dates can be found on their website)

Lake Titisee

A trip to the village of Titisee followed by a cruise on the lake of the same name, provides the ideal combined day out. Boats are also available to hire. Why not try a ride with a "donut" (it actually looks like one) – if you book the "Seemann" option this includes an ‘on board’ picnic for the guest.

Aadventure themed mini-golf park

New attraction launched in Lenzkirch in 2018: adults and children can play on 18 creatively designed themed paths over an area covering more than 10,000 m2. The adventure excursion includes a raft ride on the site. Regional specialties are available in the pleasant beer garden on the site.

Black Forest Adventure Park

The aim of foot golf is to complete 15 different ‘holes’ ranging in length from 20 to 80 metres using a football – this requires a lot of skill. There’s also football billiards, bubble soccer, a tubing track and – for those over the age of 16 years – a Segway course.

Footballers of all ages, schoolchildren

When:
Recommended in Spring and Summer, tubing track all-year round

Tatzmania Zoo and Amusement Park

A place to go with lots in store in Löffingen: Wildlife park 1 … is not just home to lions, tigers and wolves in one of Europe’s largest predator centres. There’s also a whole range of hooved and other animal attractions to entice an enthusiastic “ooh” from the visitors, followed by an “aargh” from those brave enough to try out the Big Dipper, Freefall Tower or the African Spin.

Pixie Trail in the capercaillie forest

A discovery trail through natural woodland, an adventure in itself, with lots of endearingly designed staging points. The story of the pixy postman Ferdinand and the capercaillie Anton is told through figures and creative little forest houses. The trail also educates visitors on the science of nature through the use of discovery boards. At the end of the trail there’s a playground – and a surprise!

Suitable for:
Children from the age of approx. three years (no upper limit), not suitable for pushchairs and buggies!

Fundorena

This indoor experience centre has everything that modern fun sports have to offer so your good mood won’t be dampened by any bad weather: from a trampoline park to a synthetic ice skating rink, a high rope-climbing area and an area for freestyle jumping, to an outside space with a high rope garden area.

Depending upon the attraction, some are suitable for children from the age of three and - of course - for adults

Steinwasen Park

An indoor and outdoor amusement park in the countryside, spread over a large area, designed as both an animal and amusement park, including some action-packed attractions. New feature: children’s play area covering 1,000 m2, for two to 14-year-olds.

Trips with the whole family; the trails and paths are suitable for pushchairs and buggies (beware: steep slope!)

Normally from March to November

Triberger Waterfalls

Triberger Waterfalls – the water plunges 163 metres down the mountain, over numerous natural steps. Germany’s highest waterfall is lit up until 10 p.m. Although it takes two and three-quarter hours to get there, it’s well worth it!

Suitable for:
Trips with the whole family (trails and paths are not suitable for pushchairs and buggies!)

When:
In good weather, we recommend a visit between mid-May and mid-September so in addition to a sightseeing trip you can also go hiking.

Europa Park Rulantica Water World

This attraction spectacularly combines everything you’d expect from a Scandinavian water world. All presented by nine themes on a site covering an area of more than 32,000 m2: from a city on stilts to the land of trolls and of water people and waterfalls, to the glacier mountain with slides. The forest lagoon, the perfect way to relax. Europa-Park recommends that you purchase tickets online in advance (limited capacity).

Geocaching trails in the Black Forest

Geocaching in the Black Forest is really fun – using your own device or one hired from the tourist information offices. There are more than 15 routes on offer, for example in Hinterzarten, along the Schluchsee or on the Feldberg.

Families who are looking for a different type of walking experience

Best recommended in the summer and autumn months

Parking is available. Most of the destinations presented are easily accessible by public transport – the Konus card that you are given at check-in can be used for travel free of charge.
