Leisure tips for summer in the High Black Forest

The summer outdoor season here starts at the end of April – we are happy to provide our personal tips for adults and their leisure activities in the Black Forest below. We have produced separate information for families. Our reception team will also be happy to advise you during your stay. After all, there is always something new in our region.

Tip number 1 is the Black Forest itself

The Black Forest is famous all over the world – for its cuckoo clocks, its unique landscape with the coniferous forests and rustic Black Forest houses as well as the traditional dress of the local people, including the ‘Bollenhut’ hat which is today only worn on certain occasions. A less well-known fact is that this region in the southwest of Germany is divided into separate areas. Ours is named the High Black Forest because this is where the highest points in the region can be found. The highest of all being the Feldberg, at 1,493 metres. The other special features of the surrounding area are the mountain lakes and gorges as well as the healthy air, so healthy in fact that it has won awards!

Hiking

Explore the area on foot! Many tours, such as the trail to the Ravenna Gorge, start directly at the hotel and are very well signposted. The German Hiking Institute has recognized the Upper Black Forest as an outstanding premium hiking region and recommends several routes. Also spectacular: a hike in the Wutach nature reserve.

Nordic walking

The Southern Black Forest Nature Park also has 900 kilometres of signposted Nordic walking trails – four gentle to difficult trails start at Hinterzarten.

Our recommended walks

Daniel Bank, Reservations Manager

„My favourite tour is called ‚High Black Forest Heritage Trail - Mills and Sawmills in the Gorge'. This is a circular walk which takes about two and a half hours from the hotel, the natural highlights of which are the Ravenna Gorge and the Hinterzartener Hochmoor [high moorland].“

Manuel Kern, Reception employee and qualified Nature Park guide

„For me, the ideal hiking trail from the hotel, which incorporates everything that’s extraordinary about our region and is very varied, is the Hinterzarten ‘Große Seerunde’ [Grand Lake Tour] high-altitude climate trail. EIt leads you first along forest trails and rewards you with a wonderful view from above down to Lake Titisee, before you reach the Agricultural Museum and the half-way point around the lake. The return trail takes you past the Adlerschanze station [ski jump].“
